ARRIVAL
The Oulu Museum and Science Centre Tiima is located in the Myllytulli neighborhood right by the Oulu city centre. The visiting address is Nahkatehtaankatu 6, Oulu.
The parking area is located along Makasiininkatu, at the address Makasiininkatu 5–7.
We recommend that you arrive at Tiima by public transport if possible.
You can reach Tiima by Oulu’s bus line 9 and Line A. The nearest bus stops are located along Kasarmintie about 100 meters from Tiima (line 9), and on Puusepänkatu about 170 meters from Tiima (Line A). Additional information on the Oulu Regional Transport website.
If arriving by car, take the exit 10 from motorway E75/E4 towards the city centre. Tiima’s parking area is located at the address Makasiininkatu 5–7. The parking area includes about 60 parking spaces. The parking is subject to a charge. The area includes three accessible parking spaces. There is a tactile pathway leading from the parking area to the entrance.
The taxi and escort drop-off area is located on Nahkatehtaankatu. The distance from the drop-off area to the entrance is about 70 meters. There is a tactile pathway leading from the drop-off area to the entrance.
ACCESSIBILITY
Entrances
The building has two entrances, one on the Nahkurintori side and one on the Museoaukio side. Both entrances open automatically after pressing the door button. There are no changing elevations or thresholds at the entrances.
Tactile pathways lead from the drop-off area, parking area, and Makasiininkatu to the entrances. Both entrances include aural beacons.
Elevators
The building includes two elevators which can be used to reach all operational floors. Elevator A is located in the staircase of the old building. Elevator B is located in the staircase of the new building. The new elevator includes an induction loop. The elevators’ buttons include braille signage. The elevators are not vocal, but they play sounds when reaching floors.
The old building also includes an elevator to the top of Tietomaa Turbine Hall’s Tower.
Accessible signs
Tiima’s signage also includes signs that target the senses of touch and hearing. There are tactile pathways and aural beacons leading to the entrances in the yards. There are tactile pathways, tactile maps, braille signs, and elevators’ floor signs in the indoor areas.
Induction loops
Tiima includes induction loops for visitors with hearing impariments in the following points and spaces:
- Information desk
- Restaurant hall
- Hall 1 / Experience Space VISIO
- Hall 2 / Aurora Revelare
- Tietomaa’s Makerspace learning rooms
- New elevator
Toilets and childcare
All floors include at least one accessible bathroom.
Some bathrooms in the entrance hall and the restaurant are gender-neutral, and some gender-specific. The bathrooms in all other floors are all gender-neutral.
The restaurant bathrooms on the ground floor include an accessible childcare room. The accessible bathrooms on the second and third floors include childcare tables.
Sensory accessibility
It is possible that some exhibitions include bright lights or colors, flashing imagery, and intense audio. For example, the presentations and events in Experience Space VISIO can be intense visually and include loud sounds.
All halls can be exited in the middle of a presentation or tour.
You may collect earplugs or borrow hearing protection from the information desk.
